Virginia Ironside Interview
The Virginia Monologues - Twenty Reasons why Growing Old is
Great
Agony Aunt and columnist at The Independent newspaper,
Virginia Ironside convinces Nicola Barranger that here in the UK,
there is plenty to look forward to in the Third Age . Well
for a start, there's the drugs (well - medication, all free - as
she says), the conviction to be able to say exactly what you think
and not to have to worry about what people think. Cosmetic surgery?
Why not? She doesn't even shy away from the taboo subject that we
all have to die and ends up convincing you that death needn't be
that awful. Living too long is far more worrying, she says.
So pour yourself a large drink (alcoholic or otherwise,
depending on your tradition), sit back and smile at Virginia's tips
for old age.
