Sarah Dunant
Sacred Hearts
"I just finished Sacred Hearts and was mesmermized. This
book was my introduction to the author, and whet my appetite for
more of Sarah.
I really enjoyed the interview as well. I think that
it increases the enjoyment
of an author's books when you learn more abouttheir
personal background."
Mary
Sarah Dunant's third novel in her Renaissance trilogy is set in
a convent in 16th Century Italy. As she tells Nicola Barranger,
Sacred Hearts is a account of convent life at a time when
up to 50% of Italian noblewomen were forced to enter a convent,
living and praying for the rest of their lives with in an enclosed
and highly disciplined community of women.
Sacred Hearts tells how the well-ordered routine is
completely disrupted when a 15 year old enters the convent against
her will and threatens to destroy the disciplined female
society.
Sarah Dunant's novel "Sacred Hearts" have been
shortlisted for the
Walter Scott Prize for
Fiction
