Written as what Gale describes "an echo novel" to his brilliant Notes from an Exhibition" - Gale's latest work looks at the emotional debris left by the priest of the title who attempts to lead his life doing nothing but good.

Talking to Nicola Barranger, Patrick Gale explains the thinking behind A Perfectly Good Man and how inspiration came from a news item about the parents of a tetraplegic, who help their son travel to Switzerland to commit suicide.

Patrick Gale also talks about his writing style which he calls a "a double helix" with two narrative lines which he says reflect they way our own memories work.

"It's as much a book about paternity as it is about faith"
