Transcript of Michael Arditti Interview - Jubilate Video Content
Michael Arditti's new novel is set during a 5 day pilgrimage to
the southern French town of Lourdes where over 150 years ago the
Virgin Mary is generally believed to have appeared to a young
girl.
Michael Arditti sets his latest novel in Lourdes, south western
France where in 1848 a vision, generally thought to be Mary the
mother of Jesus appeared to Bernadette Soubirous then a 14 year old
peasant girl. Today the small town welcomes 6 million pilgrims a
year and Arditti's new novel examines what happens when a devout
believer and wife of an invalid, falls in love with a media
producer, atheist and cynic there to film the rich cast of
characters who make up the pilgrimage.
In the video Arditti tells The Interview Online about the nature
of miracles, of suffering, and of faith or lack of it and how
pilgrimages have provided rich fodder for writers for hundreds of
years.
