Joan Bakewell
In an extended interview, the veteran journalist and TV &
Radio presenter tells Nicola Barranger about the plot and
inspiration behind her debut novel All the Nice Girls.
Set in wartime Liverpool, a local girls' school "adopts" a ship
with consequences as unexpected and turbulent as the events of the
time.
Joan Bakewell then goes on to discuss with Nicky, her new role
as government- appointed "Voice of Older People" - examining how in
her view, society dispenses with the services of less - young
people some of whom may not have even yet reached their prime.
She also discloses what she wished she'd known at 25 - some
fifty years ago..
