Former Observer Ballet Critic Jann Parry looks back at the struggle the young Kenneth Macmillan had to follow his chosen career. LIfe in wartime East Anglia was hard when Kenneth's mother died when he was only 12.

Jann also explains how his dancing career by cursed with panic attacks which meant he had to abandon performing and thankfully start choreography.
