The Memory of Love
The Memory of Love takes us to a country we are to
presume is Sierra Leone and introduces us to a rich cast of
characters who each have to compromise to survive in one of the
world's poorest countries.
Coming in from the UK, Adrian is a psychoanalyst wanting to
address posttraumatic stress in the country. Elias Cole is dying
but is prepared to talk to Adrian about his past life. And Kai, an
orthopaedic surgeon and colleague can see that Adrian is
well-intentioned but just how much good can he really do?
Aminatta Forna talks about the book and her take on the role of
aid workers in a third world
country.
