Amanda Craig
Amanda Craig's new novel Hearts & Minds is set in
bang-up-to date London with strong characters and a plot that could
be happening amongst today's chattering classes and immigrant
population both legal and illegal; school teachers and lawyers, cab
drivers and prostitutes.
While seriously ill for three years, Amanda tells The Interview
Online that she was inspired to find out more about the immigrant
population - individuals upon whom she found herself dependent. Who
are these people that many would prefer to label simply as "bogus
asylum seekers" and what motivates them to risk everything to come
to Britain?
Amanda Craig also explains in the video that like Charles
Dickens in Victorian times, she researched her novel by talking to
the "hidden society" of London - in her case teenage prostitutes
from Eastern Europe. She reveals that it was surprisingly easy to
encourage them to talk once they realised she wasn't from the
police or social services.
