Interviewing Penelope Lively
03 September 2009 by Administrator
Penelope Lively was a delightful interviewee when we visited
last week. As I mentioned to her, it must be a dreadful bore to
have to be nice to so many journalists and photographers who come
into your home as a place of work.
Being ever gracious and without wanting to agree with me 100%
she was kind enough to say (as she offered me coffee) that some if
the publicity surrounding a book launch was really quite
enjoyable. She even went as far as to suggest that she did meet
some very nice people. Well I was happy to be convinced. As you
will hear in the interview, she became very fond of the
characters she has created in Family Album and even at an
age when most people would put up their feet, she cannot help
herself and is preparing her next novel.
For the first time on The Interview Online, we have introduced a
secondary interview. It's very short at 2 minutes and you can
hear Ms. Lively divulging how she actually gets down
to the nuts and bolts of writing and how has the business of
writing changed over the years. We would be delighted to hear what you think
and what other questions about the art of writing you feel we need
to ask writers.
