All part of the Autumn Flood

Who says we're superstitious here on The Interview Online? The
Sadie Jones interview is confirmed. Her second books is in many
ways surprisingly different from her first (The Outcast)
which was about an emotionally damaged young boy. Small
Wars is basically about duty versus conscience as we follow
the life of Hal Traherne and his young family in Cyprus in the
1950's. It's an interesting read and we are really looking
forward to pointing a camera at Ms. Jones.
Virginia Ironside's
interview is now live, talking about cosmetic surgery drugs,
fashion, even death with a droll take on the final taboo. She was
lovely to interview and it's fantastic to have someone ahead of you
saying that older age is something to look forward to. You can't
slam the face of old age - as she paraphrased Noel Coward -
much better to welcome him in for lunch in advance
Jann Parry (until recently esteemed ballet critic of The
Observer newspaper) has written a biography of the
choreographer Sir Kenneth MacMillan which so far has had excellent
reviews so we'll keep you posted on that one.
Meanwhile though, we have been offered an interview with the
great crime writer Ruth Rendell as Penguin celebrates the
150th anniversary of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with two new
editions of the Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes. Otherwise
know as Baroness Rendell of Babergh CBE she became a life peer in
1997 and is the UK's best known and most prolific writer of
psychological thrillers.
Autumn is traditionally the busiest time for bookselling with
publishers saturating/flooding/drowning (take your pick) the market
with books before Christmas. And then there's the Booker short list
to catch up with.
Plenty to be getting on with!
