Chasing the Interview
24 August 2009 by Administrator
It's been about two weeks now since we asked for an interview
with the lovely Penelope Lively. What is it about August? Perhaps
we are just getting like the French when absolutely everything
closes down for 4 weeks. But then some of us are just sad
individuals who keep going while most sane people are out there
relaxing.
Meanwhile Penelope Lively has written another delicious book,
this time about family life in an enormous ramshackle house
somewhere in London. It's not really plot which drives this book
forward but the rich characters which Ms. Lively creates - all
reflecting on and remembering a children which at the time, they
couldn't quite work out why it was so odd.
There is Ingrid, an au pair who came when they were little and
for reasons we find out later, just never leaves, and mother-hen
Alison who fails to understand why modern women turn their backs on
family life in a large kitchen with as many children as it will
hold. So without giving away any more, we wait to hear. Hopefully
the call will come on Monday, at which point we rearrange the
everything and hopefully set out to interview Ms. Lively later this
week. You will be told!
